GeneralBiography

Jane Maltby
Jane’s first show for EMS was "The King & I" in 1986, at the tender age of 11. The easiest audition ever as all the children sang together and the society accepted every one of them! Downhill after that...! She then played Brigitta in the Sound of Music in 1987 and was the Call Boy for three further shows until she was old enough to join at aged 14. A University librarian by day but passionate about dancing, she has choreographed for a number of projects outside the society as well as assisting with the dancing (and dancers!) inside. Jane performed in "42nd Street" with the Good Companions at Derby Playhouse in 1995 and also worked as a dancer for Warner Holidays from 1997-1998. Touring with a tribute band from 2003-2006 has prevented her from performing with EMS in recent shows, however she has met (and therefore misses!) some of her dearest friends at the society and hopes to be back in the fold very soon.

personaldetails

Born in:

Derby, 1974 at the Queen Mary hospital; which then became a Nursing Home, and I think has now been knocked down, Charming. Nine days late as well – should have been born on Bonfire Night

Grew up in:

Sandiacre. Lived there for 25 years till I moved in with Louise into a house opposite the road where my Mum was born, grew up, and lived for 25 years

Star sign: Scorpio (secretive and passionate apparently – does it show?)
Hobbies:

Have to say dancing cos it’s been my life for around 26 years. Play netball in a league every week however and attend Pilates and aerobics classes. Also like reading, walking, cycling, swimming and badminton (where’s that re-match by the way Gary?)

Favourite Music:

Depends on the time of day: always classical on the way to work in the morning, cos I can’t cope with people chattering away about nothing! Also like jazz and piano / guitar music - stuff without words mainly!

Most wanted to play: No further ambitions. Happy with my one starring role of Charlie in Charlie Girl (1992). Hmm, 14 years ago… Perhaps I should think about doing another one
First job: Saturday job in a bakery for seven years
First ever record:

I believe it might have been Fresh by Kool and the Gang. I recall winning it at a birthday party once

Favourite film: Probably either "High Society" or "Gone With The Wind". Feisty Heroines in both; no faffing about, or being pathetic with either of them. The latter is definitely worth the 3¾ hours if anyone actually has that kind of time in one go
Interesting story:

Have met a few interesting ‘showbiz’ people while working at Warner’s, and with the tribute band (mainly at Butlins though!). Highlights include Toyah, Katrina (without The Waves, mind you), Chesney Hawks, Hazell Dean, and Go West!
