Top Hat

Erewash Musical Society is set to dazzle audiences with their upcoming production of “Top Hat” at The Duchess Theatre in Long Eaton this October 2025. This classic musical, inspired by the 1935 film starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, transports viewers to the glamorous world of 1930s song and dance.

The story follows Jerry Travers, a charismatic American dancer who arrives in London to star in a new stage production by his friend, producer Horace Hardwick. During his stay at a luxurious hotel, Jerry’s enthusiastic late-night tap dancing disturbs the guest in the room below, the elegant and spirited Dale Tremont. Their chance meeting leads to a whirlwind romance, but a case of mistaken identity causes Dale to believe that Jerry is actually Horace, her friend’s husband. This misunderstanding sets off a series of comedic events as Jerry pursues Dale across Europe, determined to win her heart and clarify the confusion.

Audiences can look forward to iconic Irving Berlin songs such as “Cheek to Cheek,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” and “Top Hat, White Tie and Tails,” all brought to life with dazzling choreography and sumptuous costumes. Erewash Musical Society’s production promises an evening of elegance, humour, and toe-tapping entertainment, capturing the timeless charm of a bygone era.
