Announcing the Evita Cast List

On Sunday 27th October Erewash Musical Society held auditions for our upcoming production of Evita. We perform Evita at The Duchess Theatre in Long Eaton, and if the rumours about a West End revival are true, this could be the last time this production will be performed in Long Eaton for a while.

The atmosphere was electric, filled with anticipation and the undeniable thrill of seeing talented individuals step forward to share their passion for musical theatre. With a show as iconic as Evita, the audition process was always going to be exciting, and we certainly weren’t disappointed!

A Diverse Pool of Talent

Evita demands a cast capable of portraying a complex range of characters, from the fiery and ambitious Eva Perón to the cynical and observant Che. We were thrilled to see a diverse group of individuals auditioning, each bringing their unique interpretations and vocal styles to the table. It was truly inspiring to witness such a display of talent within our local community.

Auditionees learned pieces from the show, showcasing their vocal abilities and acting skills. These included “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “A New Argentina,” and “Another Suitcase in Another Hall,” each offering a glimpse into the emotional depth and vocal demands of the roles. The audition panel was impressed by the dedication and preparedness of everyone who came through the door.

More Than Just Singing

While vocal talent is undeniably crucial for a musical production, the EMS audition process goes beyond simply assessing singing ability. We were also looking for individuals who could embody the spirit of their characters, capturing the nuances of their personalities and motivations. This involved engaging auditionees in discussions about their understanding of the show and its historical context. We were particularly interested in seeing how they would interpret the complex character of Eva Perón, a woman who remains a controversial figure in Argentine history.

The audition process also included a dance audition, led by our talented choreographer, Laurie Trott. Evita features several ensemble numbers that require strong dance skills, and we were pleased to see the enthusiasm and energy that the auditionees brought to this aspect of the process.

Looking Ahead to a Fantastic Production

Now that the auditions are complete, the real work begins! The production team carefully considered all the talented individuals we saw and made difficult decisions about casting. We are confident that we have assembled a stellar cast who will bring this iconic musical to life on the Duchess Theatre stage.

Rehearsals will commence soon, and we are incredibly excited to embark on this journey with our cast and crew. Evita is a powerful and moving show that explores themes of ambition, love, and political intrigue. We are confident that our production will be a memorable and thought-provoking experience for our audiences.
